William H. Scanlan

Scanlan, William “Bill”, age 68, December 18, 2020. Beloved husband of Kathleen for 46 years. Dear father of Will (Dyan), Kim (Jack Berry) Scanlan, the late Brad (Brittany), and Katie Scanlan. Proud grandfather of Billy, Kalie, Joey, Olivia and Brooke. He is loved and missed by his many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Bill was born in Detroit and was one of the Farmbrook Fourteen. He attended St. Philomena and later graduated from Bishop Gallagher High School. Through his brother Bob, he met the love of his life, Kathleen, on New Year’s Eve. The two were married on September 27, 1974 and raised their family on the East side of Detroit. They attended Our Lady Queen of Peace and proudly followed in their father’s footsteps by graduating from Bishop Gallagher.

For fifteen years, Bill was the owner of Scanlan’s Fisher Road Florist. After owning the florist, he still arranged for all types of family events, from weddings to holidays and even for the funeral of his son, the late Brad. He recently retired from Home Depot where he was able to share his knowledge and love for all things Home and Garden. His backyard was immaculate and not a blade was out of place. It was the softest grass you would ever feel. Bill loved to make people laugh with his infectious sense of humor and was even good for a scare or two with his elaborate stories. Above all, he was a loving husband to Kathleen, terrific father to his children and the best grandfather to all his grandkids.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 2pm to 9pm at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 25800 Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake Street in St. Clair Shores. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Solanus Casey Center. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and order from the State of Michigan, face masks must be worn at all times, proper social distancing is required and guests are limited to 25 individuals at a time.
