Beloved husband of the late Anne, and the late Margaret. Loving father of Gayle (Tom) Mateer, Paul (Karlin), and Alan (Karen). Proud grandfather of Adam (Hannah), Rachael, Ryan, and Kara. Dear brother of Joseph and the late Rocco and John.
Memorial gathering at the Sterling Heights Chapel of Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home 13650 E. Fifteen Mile Road, (@ Schoenherr) Wednesday, April 4, 2018, 3 pm-8 pm. Funeral Thursday, April 5, 2018 Instate 9:00 am St. Peter Catholic Church 95 Market Street, Mt. Clemens, until time of Mass 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Cancer Society or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation would be appreciated.
Louis and Anne were married for nearly 50 years before her early death from breast cancer. They were like two peas in a pod. Louis being the high-strung go getter and Anne his calming mate.
Louis and Marge were married for 11 years before her early death from heart failure. During this time, they loved and cared for each other while enjoying their family and friends.
Louis was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and did his very best to teach them to be honest, kind and responsible.
Throughout his life, Louis maintained friendships with the members of the “Spartan” Club formed while they were in middle school.
He loved to tell dad jokes. One of his favorites was: A man walks into a pizzeria and orders a pizza. The baker asks if he wants it cut in 6 pieces or 8. The man says “I’m not very hungry. Cut it in 6”.
A high school math teacher, Louis spent his career educating his students on the finer points of Algebra and Geometry. But the bigger impact he had was the way he treated them as young men and women. Always addressing them as Mr. and Miss and always demanding the same respect in return. For over 25 of those years he worked an additional four nights a week running the night school program as principal.
His son remembers running into one of his former students more than 20 years after his graduation. ‘Is your father Mr. Rossi?’ he asked. ‘Yes, he is’ was the reply. ‘Mr. Rossi, the math teacher at Osborn?’. ‘Yes’ again. ‘He was the best teacher I ever had. So professional, so caring. He’s the only teacher from high school I remember’.
Louis always insisted on being well dressed. A result of his proud service in the Marine Corps, no doubt. He would never leave the house, not even for a quick errand to the hardware store, without first changing into proper attire. He never knew who he might meet.
Speaking of the Marine Corps, Louis served from 1946 to 1948 and was sent to China as part of the Occupational Force.
A devout Catholic, Louis was very active in the St. Basil the Great parish. Serving on the Men’s Club, as an usher and more. Louis also served many years in the Leo XIII Knights of Columbus, was a board member of their credit union for many years.
Louis’s father, Frank was a founding member of the Cepranese Club and Louis served on the board in several offices over the years.
Louis will be dearly missed by his children and grandchildren. They find great solace in knowing he is finally reunited with their dear mother, his beloved Anne.
