Gioacchino "Jack" D'urso

January 3, 1946 ~ November 24, 2021 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Tribute

D’urso, Gioacchino “Jack” age 75. November 24, 2021. Beloved husband of Rosalie (nee Licavoli). Devoted father of Connie (Jeffrey) Watkins and Rosalie (Michael) Dunaskiss. Proud papa of Gabriel (Faith), Dominic and Jack. Dear brother in law of Grace (Frank) LaRocca, Joann (Danny) Rubino, Michael (Kimberly) Licavoli and Joseph (Debbie) Licavoli. Survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Jack was born in Cesana Italy on January 3, 1946 to Francesco and Concetta D’urso. At age 10 he came to America by airplane with his father and mother. All their belongings were put on the Andrea Doria Ship which later sank and they lost everything. But the D’urso’s persevered – his father became a barber and his mother – a seamstress.

Because Jack couldn’t speak very good English he went to a special school. He was a quick learner and went on to excel at Navity Grade School and High School. Being a very personable young man, he joined the yearbook committee and football team. He graduated in 1965 and went on to Wayne State University earning a Bachelor of History Degree. While in college he joined the ROTC. Because of being in the ROTC Jack became an officer when he entered the Army. He served 2 years in active duty in Korea. Jack was 20 years in the Army Reserve as a Medical Service Corp Officer and Medical Company Commander. He retired as a Liet. Colonel.
In 1973 Jack was introduced to his wife Rosalie at a Columbus Day Dance. His soon to be brother and sister in law were the ones who introduced Jack to Rosalie, the rest is history and they were married May 29, 1974.
Jack’s work history begun with D’urso Produce at the Eastern Market. After that he worked for Frito-Lay and finally retired as a branch manager for National Bank of Detroit.

Jack had many interests in life. He loved to travel, always a student of history and loved watching “Ancient Aliens”. His pride and joy was his collection of National Geographic Magazines. Another passion of Jack’s was eating and playing poker on the holidays. Not winning very much he was always gracious in loss. Besides working hard all his life, he also became a licensed Real Estate Agent.
Always an active member of the community, he was Commander of American Legion Holy Family Post #570; member of Father Solanus Casey Knights of Columbus and friend to many.

Jack will be greatly missed by his wife Rosalie, daughters Connie and Rosalie; grandchildren, family and friends.
Rest in Peace Jack – you led a great life.
