Be the first to offer your condolences on Fortunata's Tribute Wall
Fortunata “Tina” Caponi (nee Ciavatta), age 89 Born on June 8, 1930 in San Marino, Italy. She was a longtime resident of St. Clair Shores and passed away peacefully on June 6, 2020. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Marco Antonio in 2017. Surviving are her nieces Maria Grazia Mina who resides in San Marino, Italy and Aileen Ciavatta who resides in Michigan.
Tina made the journey over the Atlantic Ocean to the United States in 1954 to seek a better life and lived with her cousin in Niagara Falls, New York. There, she learned the tailor-seamstress trade. Tina later moved to Detroit, Michigan where she met the love of her life, Marco Caponi. Tina was the head seamstress at Henry’s Cleaners in Grosse Pointe, where she worked for over 30 years until her retirement.
Her true passions were cooking, entertaining and visiting with family and friends. In her family, Tina always hosted the Thanksgiving holiday complete with all the Italian traditions with everyone fighting to get more of her delicious stuffing. If you ate at Tina’s, you would always leave full. If she didn’t think you were eating enough she would say…. ”mangia, mangia” and put more food on your plate! Her specialty was her lasagna. It was a special treat to go over to Tina and Marco’s for dinner.
She was like a second mother to so many and is survived by countless loving relatives and friends. Tina was loved and cherished by all who knew and met her. She will be dearly missed. “Fine che incontriamo di nuovo” ! (until we meet again)
A memorial service (celebration of life) will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home in St. Clair Shores. Entombment will be later in Arquata Del Tronto, Pretare, Italy where she will be joined with her husband.
