Alex M. Raney, M.D.

March 21, 1929 ~ July 27, 2022 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

Alex M. Raney of Rose Hill Plantation in Bluffton, SC and also of Barley Mills Courts in Greenville, DE passed away peacefully on July 27, with loving family at his side.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Denise L. Raney, two loving daughters, Michele Branigan (Philip) of Calverton, NY and Barbara Green (Kyle Cronin) of N. Bellmore, NY. He is also survived by his much loved grandchildren Stephanie and Philip Branigan, Erin Corkery (Christian). Samantha, and Sophia Green, all residing in NY.

Alex was born in Mashad, Persia and came to the U. S. to further his education in medicine as a young man. At that time he was granted a full scholarship and he was extremely proud of that.

He lost both his parents at a very young age and was also predeceased by his only brother Abdul Hassan. Alex is survived by a special sister-in-law Robabeh and many other family members in Iran, especially his great nephew Eshan.

At home in this country he is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and a special sister and brother-in-law, Melba and Steve Collins, who were present at the time of his passing.

Alex is also survived by his first wife Lucille Estabrook, the mother of his daughters.

Alex had many great accomplishments. He graduated from Mashad University of Medical Sciences in 1956. He completed a urology residency at Lincoln Medical Center in 1962. He was a member of the American Board of Urology. Alex had numerous publications and presentation in urological research, especially electrohydraulic urethrolithorotripsy.

He spent many years treating veterans at the Wilmington, DE Medical Center and was a full professor at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. He derived great joy and satisfaction from helping the residents learn.

Alex had a great love for his family and always tried to instill the importance of higher education. His children and grandchildren have all done extremely well.

Outside of work, Alex enjoyed working in his flowers and shrubs. Traveling was also his enjoyment. More recently he enjoyed looking out at our view of the river and watching the deer pass through.

We believe we are from God and we return to him one day.

Visitation will take place Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 10-11am at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 13650 E. 15 Mile, Sterling Heights.
